Kelp forests are one of the most under-appreciated, under-explored and under-protected ecosystems in the world, and yet they are also one of the most beautiful, captivating and story-rich ecosystems. As kelp forests disappear around the world twice as fast as coral reefs and four times as fast as rainforests, we recognize that although the “thinking mind” often knows what to do, it is the “feeling mind” that takes action.

Storytelling is the key to unlocking emotion, shaping new narratives and connecting hearts and minds to the beauty, awe and understanding of these kelp forest ecosystems.

“WHEN I WAS A YOUNG CHILD GROWING UP ON THE SOUTHWEST COAST OF SOUTH AFRICA, IT WAS A SINGLE KELP STIPE THAT, LIKE A LIFE ROPE, SAVED MY BROTHER AND I FROM A DANGEROUS RIPTIDE.

AS I HAVE GROWN OLDER, I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND THESE FORESTS OF THE SEA AS A PLACE OF SAFETY FOR MORE THAN JUST MY FAMILY – FOR THE MILLIONS OF ANIMALS IT HOMES, THE COASTLINE IT PROTECTS, AND THE CLIMATE REFUGE IT PROVIDES.”
